Mon Sep 4 - LABOR DAY HOLIDAY - NO CLASSES
Tue Sep 5 - Drop/Refund Deadline (11:59 pm)
Wed Sep 6 - Continue chapter 2 up to survey method, Alfred Kinsey and selected findings of his surveys

Expect modifications to the remainder of the calendar.
Once it becomes clear when classes at Valencia College will resume,
changes to the calendar will need to be made.
Expect quizzes and exams to be scheduled for later days/weeks than originally posted.
We will not have a quiz or test until after we have discussed the relevant chapter(s) in class.

WEEK FOUR
Mon Sep 18 - Finish chapter 2.
Wed Sep 20 - Take time to clarify/answer any student questions about chapter 2 study guide. Start chapter 3 up to hymen, perineum, variations in appearance of the human vulva

WEEK FIVE
Mon Sep 25 - Quiz over Sex Research (Chap 2) and continue chapter 3 up to age at menarche
Wed Sep 27 - Continue up to biological details of menstrual cycle, sex during menstruation, PMS symptoms

WEEK SIX
Mon Oct 2 - Continue up to hysterectomy & oophorectomy
Wed Oct 4 - Continue up to risk factors for breast cancer

WEEK SEVEN
Mon Oct 9 - Finish female chapter. Start male chapter up to ejaculation (is a reflex)
Wednesday October 11 (11pm) - deadline for completing chapter 3 Test in MindTap - 5 points
(MindTap = textbook website available via purchased access code)

Wed Oct 11 - practice finding lumps in models of the breast (5 points),
turn in optional extra credit essays (See Syllabus Appendix C for instructions and topics for essays),
Exam over Research- (Chap 2) & Females (Chap 3)

30 questions from chapter 3 (females) - including 10 picture questions to label with the correct names

WEEK EIGHT
Mon Oct 16 - Continue up to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
Wed Oct 18 -  Finish male chapter (4). Start sexual arousal chapter (6) up to Helen Singer Kaplan's model of the sexual response cycle.

WEEK NINE
Mon Oct 23 - Finish sexual response chapter (6) and start gender chapter (5) up to chromosomes and biological sex
Wed Oct 25 - Continue up to intersex conditions: Turner's syndrome, Klinefelter's syndrome, Androgen Insensitivity syndrome, and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

WEEK TEN
Mon Oct 30 - Continue intersex conditions: 5-alpha-reductase deficiency
AND Exam over Males (Chap 4) & Sexual Response Cycle (Chap 6)
Wed Nov 1 - Continue up to transsexual surgery

WEEK ELEVEN
Mon Nov 6 - Finish gender chapter (5) and start STD/STI chapter (only the first three slides of the powerpoint file)
Wed Nov 8 - Continue up to chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, HPV (and only the first slide on hepatitis)

Fri Nov 10 - Withdrawal Deadline - Last opportunity to withdraw (will get a "W" grade)
after this date you will not be able to withdraw yourself

WEEK TWELVE
Mon Nov 13 - Continue up to initial symptoms of HIV infection
Wed Nov 15 - Finish chapter 15 (STDs/STIs) and start chapter 10 (contraception) up to how the pill prevents pregnancy

WEEK THIRTEEN
Mon Nov 20 - Exam over gender (Chap 5) and sexually transmitted infections (Chap 15)
Wed Nov 22 - THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY - NO CLASSES

WEEK FOURTEEN
Mon Nov 27 - Continue up to barrier methods: condoms and diaphragms
Wed Nov 29 - Continue up to natural family planning methods: mucus method and calendar method

WEEK FIFTEEN
Mon Dec 4 - Finish contraception chapter. Start going through top 10 topics from pregnancy chapter (Q1-Q4).
Wed Dec 6 - Continue the top 10 topics from the pregnancy chapter (Q5-Q10):

Q1 (originally Q1). Know what length of time a couple must spend attempting to conceive without having any success before they fall under the technical definition of experiencing infertility. [do not use the books advice to consult a physician after 6 months]

Q2 (originally Q7). ( Not in textbook directly/correctly ) Do a majority or a minority of couples who use assisted reproductive techniques become biological parents?

Q3 (originally Q8). What is one common risk of fertility treatments that succeed in causing pregnancy?

Q4 (originally Q17). Know during what time-span within a pregnancy (with no risk factors) sexual activity and orgasm may be continued.

Q5 (originally Q21). Know when the fetal movements can first be felt by the pregnant woman. (by which month of the pregnancy?)

Q6 (originally Q23). Not in textbook. Know what dietary substance can decrease the chance of a pregnant woman giving birth to a baby with a neural tube defect (such as spina bifida or anencephaly).

Q7 (originally Q24). Know what substance is the leading cause of birth defects & developmental disabilities in the U.S.

Q8 (originally Q26). Know how many weeks is the typical length of a full term pregnancy.

Q9 (originally Q28). Know the names of the three stages of labor - know what happens in each stage - know how long each stage typically lasts.

Q10 (originally Q30). Know three benefits of breast feeding.

FINALS WEEK
Monday Dec 11 - 10:00am - 12:30pm
(10:00am-11:00am movie followed by 11:00am-12:30pm exam)
FINAL EXAM
Contraception (Chap 10) - The majority of the questions (30 questions) will be from the contraception chapter
& Pregnancy (Chap 11) - There will be 10 questions related to 10 topics I will select from the pregnancy chapter
Sexual Orientation (Chap 9) - There will be 5 extra credit questions related to the movie that we will watch just before taking the exam (These questions will lead to 5 extra credit points if you answer them correctly)

You may also turn in 2 extra credit essays if you have not yet done so
Essay topics are listed in an appendix at the end of my syllabus found at this website

NOTE: The Final Exam will take place in the same classroom in which we have met all semester.
